Frances Georgina Gabb or a colleague, posted this cover on the 3rd February 1895 at Darkton Post Office, where it received a Darkton squared circle datestamp in black. (The datestamp has ‘SWAZIEL’ at the foot.) The postage rate to the British Isles was two and a half pence, per half oz. However, the 2d stamp has been removed after it arrived in Wimbledon. This is the only Mrs. Head cover known with a postage stamp missing. On the reverse are four datestamps, two for Johannesburg, one for Cape Colony and a Wimbledon single circle arrival datestamp, for the 1st March 1895. Therefore, a journey time of just 26 days.
Frances Georgina Gabb was born December 1853 and died 1st June 1951 and was buried, Tunbridge Wells Borough Cemetery.
