The South African Republic two and a half penny, postage stamp is tied by a Darkton double circle datestamp in black, which is dated 7th April 1897. On the reverse are four datestamps, one for Pretoria dated 11th April 1897, two for London and a single circle, arrival datestamp for Wimbledon, all dated the 3rd May 1897.
Notes on Miss. Frances Georgina Gabb
The date of her birth is given as December 1853, and she died on the 1st June 1951. There is a 'Notice of her death' in the Kent & Sussex Courier of 1stJuly 1951. She had been living at 10 Byng Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, and was interred at the Cemetery off Benhall Road (Tunbridge Wells Borough Cemetery).
Keswick Convention
In May 1904 she visited St. Leonards Rooms, Warrior Square, Keswick, Cumbria, during the Keswick Convention. This annual gathering of evangelical Christians, set in the English Lake District, normally lasts about a week. It began in 1875, and became the focal point of Christian organizations like the South Africa General Mission, and continues today. Some of the Conventions held in southern Africa were also called 'Keswick'.
