South Africa General Mission

The two South African Republic, one-penny carmine ('Disselboom') and the half-penny grey ('Vürtheim') postage stamps are tied by two Darkton double circle datestamp in black and dated 19^th May 1895. These have 'Z.A.R. in the lower circle. This was the half oz letter rate to the British Isles from the 1^st December 1892. On the back of this envelope are the following datestamps, Ermelo 20^th May 1895, Johannesburg 22^nd May 1895, Cape Town 25^th May 1895 and an arrival for Wimbledon 7^th June 1895.
